The STEM Teacher Inspiration programme aims to support Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 mathematics, science and technology teachers who are committed to enhancing mathematical links across STEM subjects within their school, and nurturing confident, resourceful and enthusiastic learners with a deeper understanding of the fundamental links between mathematics, science and technology.
The programme is delivered by the NRICH team at the University of Cambridge. In parallel, NRICH are developing new secondary stemNRICH resources for Key Stage 3 and 4, as well as the existing stemNRICH - Advanced resources at Key Stage 5. This programme will focus on the natural mathematical links throughout STEM subjects and pairs of Science/Maths or Technology/Maths teachers from the same schools are therefore encouraged to attend.
Programme format and venue:
The format of the programme is based on NRICH's experience in delivering the highly-successful Teacher Inspiration programme. The STEM Teacher Inspiration programme will be delivered as three one-day events over the course of the 2011/12 academic year - teachers accepted onto the programme will attend all three days to provide a lasting, significant impact to teaching practice which can be shared amongst colleages in school and beyond. Each full-day event will start at approximately 10am and end at around 4pm, with a mixture of plenary sessions and intensive hands-on workshops.
The days will be highly interactive and will respond to the issues and concerns raised by teachers. The three days will allow science, technology and mathematics teachers to explore ways in which they might work together to enhance the experience of all these subjects for pupils. We believe that this is a unique opportunity to engage in cutting-edge activity in schools!
The venue will be the Centre for Mathematical Sciences at the University of Cambridge.
Who can attend?:
Thanks to generous support from the Clothworkers' Foundation we are able to offer free places to Key Stage 3, 4 or 5 mathematics, science and technology teachers from schools in the UK. Up to 2 teachers from each school/college can attend; for maximum benefit we would prefer teachers to be in different departments (e.g. a mathematics and a science teacher, or a mathematics and a technology teacher). Teachers who have previously attended a Teacher Inspiration programme are welcome to apply for places on this STEM programme with a colleague from a different department.
How to apply:
To apply for places please complete and return the registration form (if you have any difficulties downloading the form please email us).
The deadline for applications was Friday 16th September 2011: please note that the programme is now fully booked and there are no further places available.
